In this multi-media presentation, Jackson Katz, one of America's leading anti-sexist male activists, uses clips from his award-winning film, Tough Guise, to illustrate how mainstream media images help to promote violent masculinity as a cultural norm. Utilizing examples from popular culture, ranging from Howard Stern to Stone Cold Steve Austin, from Good Will Hunting to Boyz 'N the Hood, from Garth Brooks to hip hop styles, Katz will enlighten and provoke students (both men and women) to evaluate their own participation in the culture of contemporary masculinity.

- Uta Gerhardt is Professor of Sociology at Heidelberg University. As a visiting research associate at Harvard University's Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies, she is presently working in Harvard's archives on Parsons' unpublished papers in order to constuct his intellectual biography. Professor Gerhardt has published 16 books and more than 120 articles in professional journals in both English and German.
